Questions and Answers about NOW Foods, Sports, Pea Protein

    Have a Question?

    Ask a Question
    • Is NOW Foods Sports Pea Protein actually good for you?

NOW Foods Sports Pea Protein can be a beneficial addition to many diets, especially for those following plant-based eating patterns. Pea protein is a complete protein source, containing all nine essential amino acids. It's also naturally hypoallergenic and easily digestible for many people, making it a good alternative to dairy-based or soy proteins.

    • Is NOW Foods Sports Pea Protein good for athletes?

NOW Foods Sports Pea Protein can be an excellent choice for athletes. It provides a good balance of amino acids necessary for muscle recovery and growth, including branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). Pea protein is also easily digestible and less likely to cause digestive issues during intense training compared to some other protein sources.

    • Is NOW Foods Sports Pea Protein FDA approved?

The FDA does not approve dietary supplements like NOW Foods Sports Pea Protein in the same way it does medications. However, supplement manufacturers are required to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and ensure their products are safe and accurately labeled. NOW Foods is known for adhering to high quality standards in their manufacturing processes.

    • Why is pea protein so expensive?

Pea protein can be more expensive than some other protein sources due to the processing required to extract and concentrate the protein from peas. The demand for plant-based proteins has also increased in recent years, potentially affecting prices. However, when compared to other high-quality plant-based proteins, pea protein is often competitively priced.

    • What are the negatives of NOW Foods Sports Pea Protein?

While NOW Foods Sports Pea Protein is generally well-tolerated, some potential drawbacks include its taste, which some find less appealing than other protein sources. It may also cause bloating or gas in some individuals, especially when first introducing it to their diet. Additionally, pea protein is lower in certain amino acids, like methionine, compared to animal-based proteins.

    • Why avoid pea protein?

There are few reasons to completely avoid pea protein unless you have a specific allergy or sensitivity to peas. Some people might choose other protein sources if they find the taste unappealing or if they experience digestive discomfort. Those with gout or kidney stones might need to be cautious with pea protein due to its purines content, though this is generally not a concern for most healthy individuals.
