Questions and Answers about NOW Foods, Iron

    Have a Question?

    Ask a Question
    • What are the side effects of taking NOW Foods Iron?

Common side effects of taking NOW Foods Iron may include nausea, constipation, and stomach discomfort. These effects are typically mild and can often be mitigated by taking the supplement with food or adjusting the dosage as needed.

    • Is it safe to take NOW Food Iron every day?

For most people, it is generally safe to take NOW Foods Iron daily as directed on the product label. However, it's important to note that individual iron needs can vary, and excessive iron intake can lead to iron overload in some cases. It's always best to assess your personal iron requirements and consult with a healthcare professional before starting a daily iron regimen.

    • Should you take NOW Foods Iron in the morning or night?

NOW Foods Iron can be taken either in the morning or at night, but taking it with a meal can help improve absorption and reduce the likelihood of stomach upset. Some people find that taking iron supplements in the evening helps minimize potential side effects during the day, while others prefer morning dosing for better adherence to their supplement routine.

    • Who cannot take iron supplements?

Certain individuals should avoid or use caution when taking iron supplements, including those with hemochromatosis (a condition causing excessive iron absorption) or other iron storage disorders. People with certain types of anemia, such as sideroblastic anemia, may also need to avoid iron supplements. Additionally, individuals with a history of iron overload or those taking certain medications may need to exercise caution with iron supplementation.

    • Can I take vitamin C and iron together?

Yes, you can take vitamin C and iron together, and it's often beneficial to do so. Vitamin C enhances iron absorption, particularly non-heme iron found in plant sources and supplements. Taking vitamin C alongside iron can significantly improve its absorption in the body, making it an effective combination for those looking to maximize the benefits of their iron supplementation.

    • What to avoid when taking iron supplements?

When taking iron supplements, it's advisable to avoid consuming foods or beverages that can interfere with iron absorption. These include calcium-rich foods, tea, coffee, and foods high in phytates (such as whole grains and legumes) around the time you take your iron supplement. It's also best to avoid taking iron with other mineral supplements, as they can compete for absorption.
