Questions and Answers about Jarrow Formulas, Q-absorb Co-Q10

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • What is CoQ10 best absorbed with?

CoQ10 is best absorbed when taken with a meal containing some fat, as it is a fat-soluble compound. Additionally, formulations that enhance its bioavailability, such as Jarrow Formulas' Q-absorb, which uses a lipid-based delivery system, can improve absorption. Some studies suggest that taking CoQ10 with black pepper extract (piperine) may also enhance its absorption.

  • What vitamin should not be taken with CoQ10?

There are no specific vitamins that should be strictly avoided when taking CoQ10. However, it's important to be cautious when combining CoQ10 with blood-thinning medications or supplements, as CoQ10 may have a mild blood-thinning effect. Additionally, some studies suggest that high doses of vitamin E might reduce the effectiveness of CoQ10, so it may be advisable to space out their consumption if you're taking both.

  • How do you absorb CoQ10?

CoQ10 absorption can be enhanced by taking it with a meal containing some fat, as it is a fat-soluble compound. Choosing a formulation designed for better bioavailability, such as Jarrow Formulas' Q-absorb, which uses a lipid-based delivery system, can also improve absorption.

  • How much CoQ10 should I take with Atorvastatin?

The appropriate dose of CoQ10 to take with Atorvastatin can vary depending on individual factors and should be determined in consultation with a healthcare provider. However, many studies have used doses ranging from 100-200 mg per day of CoQ10 for individuals taking statins.

  • What happens if you don't take CoQ10 with statins?

Statins, while effective at lowering cholesterol, can potentially reduce the body's natural production of CoQ10. Without supplementation, some individuals may experience a decrease in CoQ10 levels, which could potentially contribute to side effects associated with statin use, such as muscle pain or weakness.

  • Should I take CoQ10 in the morning or at night?

CoQ10 can be taken at any time of day, but taking it with a meal containing some fat can enhance absorption. Some people prefer to take it in the morning, as it is involved in energy production and may provide a subtle energy boost. Others choose to take it at night, particularly if they're using it to counteract potential side effects of statin medications, which are often taken in the evening.
